MONROE, La. – The ULM tennis team travels to Southern Miss Friday for the last of five-straight matches away from home. The Warhawks and Golden Eagles will get started at 2 p.m. in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The Warhawks split two conference matches this past weekend to move to 11-3 on the season. ULM dropped a close 4-3 decision to Middle Tennessee on March 30 before blanking Western Kentucky 6-0 the following day.
Junior Medy Blankvoort paced the Warhawks with a 2-0 singles record on the week. Blankvoort defeated Middle Tennessee's Yuiri Nomoto, 6-2, 6-4, and did not lose a game in a dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory over Western Kentucky's Carolina Barboza to improve to 12-2 on the season. Blankvoort has compiled a 28-3 singles record over the past two seasons.
Freshman Iris Van Leeuwen also went 2-0 for the Warhawks in singles action in her collegiate debut. Van Leeuwen defeated Middle Tennessee's Alexandra Torres, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 6 position and topped Western Kentucky's Alex Crofford, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 5 position.
ULM has continued its dominance in doubles action with only one lost point in 13 tries this season. Blankvoort and freshman Justyna Krol are 10-1 on the season, while freshman Petra Horakova and sophomore Silvia Tumova have posted an 8-1 record on the season.
Southern Miss is coming off a 4-0 loss at Ole Miss on March 31 to drop to 0-17 on the season.
Following its trip to Southern Miss, ULM returns home to face Southern University Thursday, April 11, at 2 p.m.
