NEW ORLEANS – ULM junior Medy Blankvoort earned Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday. Blankvoort is the first Warhawk to win SBC weekly honors since Claire Clark won on March 30, 2011.
A native of Huizen, Netherlands, Blankvoort improved to 15-2 in singles play with a dominant 3-0 record over the final two weeks of the regular season. She won all three matches in straight sets and lost just four games. Blankvoort has compiled a stellar 31-3 record in singles action over the past two spring seasons.
Blankvoort defeated Kate Lanier of Southern Miss, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 2 singles position on April 5 in Hattiesburg, Miss. She followed up with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Southern's Danielle Dixon on April 11 and closed out the regular season with an easy 6-1, 6-2 win over Janie Nowland of Arkansas State on April 13.
She also teamed with Justyna Krol to post a 3-0 record at the No. 2 doubles position.
ULM (14-3) will find out its seed for the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Championships when the new ITA rankings are released on Tuesday. The SBC Championships take place April 18-21 in Lafayette, La.
