Hunter Receives All-Sun Belt Honor

Women's Basketball

NEW ORLEANS -- Senior forward Alayshia Hunter was named to the All-Sun Belt second team Tuesday afternoon.

Hunter ranked seventh or better in six Sun Belt games-only categories, including field goal percentage (fourth, 52.1 percent), scoring (fifth, 16.4 ppg), rebounding (seventh, 7.3 rpg) and blocking (sixth, 1.2 bpg). She had started 15 games her first three years. Hunter finished her career No. 14 on ULM's all-time scoring list (1,109 points).

The Killeen, Texas, native scored a career-high 30 points at Troy in her final collegiate road game, including a 14-for-17 clip from the field. Those makes were the most by anyone in the Sun Belt for a single game on the year, and were the most by a Warhawk since Ashleigh Simmons had 15 at Ole Miss in November 2013.

Hunter's free-throw strengths could have also been overlooked. She was perfect on 12 attempts in an 88-84 win at Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 29 and also made 22 consecutive foul shots from Dec. 31-Jan. 23. Her 72.4 percent overall mark from the charity stripe was 10 points higher than her previous-best season.

She had nine 20-point outings on the year, setting career-highs on Nov. 13 (25 points vs. Louisiana College) and Dec. 16 at McNeese State (28 points) prior to that Troy contest on Feb. 27.

Her first game against the Trojans was also more than memorable, as she scored 14 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter to lead ULM to a 77-73 win after trailing by 11 early in the final period.

Hunter is ULM's fourth women's basketball player in the last five years to earn postseason recognition from the Sun Belt. Ashleigh Simmons received such accolades twice in that span and Sharnice Brooks was a second-team member in 2015.
