RUSTON, La. – Looking to follow-up on a huge opening day, the ULM track & field program will be back in action on Saturday when it competes at the Jim Mize Invitational on the campus of Louisiana Tech.
Field events kickoff at 11 a.m., while track competition starts at 3 p.m. at the Jim Mize Track & Field Facility. The meet will feature triple dual scoring as the Warhawks compete against LA Tech, McNeese State, Northwestern State and Southern.
ULM crowned five championships and 14 medal winners last Saturday at the season-opening McNeese Relays. Junior Alton Clay Jr. won the hammer throw, junior Jevaughn Shaw the men's discus, senior Rondell Coleman the 400m hurdles, junior Jemal Parharm Jr. the long jump and junior Alexis Gordon the women's discus.
Clay's 61.32m in the hammer throw demolished his previous personal-record of 49.85m. He's been on fire after winning the weight throw at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships with another big personal-record toss of 18.70m.
In the men's 100m, freshman Tyler Taylor holds the fastest time in the Sun Belt Conference with his personal-record of 10.57 last weekend. Senior Rondell Coleman also ranks first in the 400m hurdles after his gold-medal time of 53.98.
ULM also has a pair of the top men's jumpers as junior Jemal Parharm Jr. is at the top of the charts in the long jump (7.31m) and sophomore Lebrun Nelson in the triple jump (15.37m).
Two-time defending men's javelin champion, senior Joseph Womack, holds the league's best time in the event at 64.18m. He's one of two throws ranked first in the league as sophomore Kyle Weiss fired a 17.13m in the shot put.
Gordon highlights the women's side after her first-place toss of 51.50m in the discus last weekend ranks second in the conference.
