ULM Closes Out April, Begins May Schedule with Georgia Southern

MONROE, La. – The ULM baseball team will play its final games of the month of April and the first in May as the Warhawks entertain the Eagles of Georgia Southern this weekend at Warhawk Field. The series is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday night, with game two on Saturday night at 6 p.m. and the finale on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

All three games between ULM and Georgia Southern will air KMLB 540 AM in Monroe as well as online (Nick White, pxp). Live stats as well as live video (via Warhawks All-Access) will also be available.

First Pitch…
• ULM will host Georgia Southern this weekend in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series... The series marks the Eagles' first-ever trip to Monroe... Game one is set for Friday night at 6 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. start on Saturday night... The finale will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday morning (travel reasons).
• ULM and Georgia Southern have met a total of six times on the baseball diamond... The Eagles lead the all-time series, 4-2... Last season, Georgia Southern claimed a series opening doubleheader before the Warhawks came away with an 11-1 win in the finale... Prior to the 2015 meeting in Statesboro, the two clubs met at the 1968 NAIA Area Five Tournament... The two teams played a total of three times with Georgia Southern winning the first and last games of the tournament.
• ULM fell on Tuesday night, 6-2, at Stephen F. Austin.
Cole Hendrix notched his first collegiate quality start as he tossed six complete innings, allowing three hits and one walk with three strikeouts during his 66-pitch outing.
Danny Springer led the Warhawks at the plate against the Lumberjacks as he notched a homer, a sac fly, two RBI and one run scored.
Danny Springer led the Warhawks at the plate last week (Apr. 18-24) as the first baseman batted .385 and posted an OPS of 1.192 (.692 SLG; .500 OB)... He tallied four doubles on the week to go along with one walk and two hit-by-pitch.
Nathan Pugh tallied five hits (double, homer) on the week with three runs scored... He also drew a pair of walks as he finished the week of Apr. 18-24 with an OPS of 1.012 (.600 SLG; .412 OB).
Keegan Curtis was effective on the mound for the Warhawks last week, as in a pair of starts (vs. No. 7 Mississippi State and at Arkansas State), he did not allow an earned run in nine innings on the bump... He also struck out seven and limited opponents to a .182 batting average.
• ULM and Mississippi State battled deep into the Biloxi night as Wednesday's non-conference contest lasted four hours and 47 minutes and came to an end on a walk-off RBI single by Jake Mangum in the bottom of the 14th inning.
• The 14-inning contest was the fourth extra-inning game of the season for ULM... It was the longest game for the Warhawks since a 14-inning contest against UL Lafayette in the 2014 regular season finale.
• The 4,472 fans in attendance got treated to a quality game as the RBI single that plated Ryan Gridley was the only run scored at MGM Park (home of the Biloxi Shuckers).
• Pitching was the name of the game between the Warhawks and the Bulldogs... The two teams combined to use 17 pitchers (nine by Mississippi State; eight by ULM).
• ULM's pitching staff limited No. 7 Mississippi State to just one run on seven hits with four walks and eight strikeouts... The Warhawk staff limited the Bulldogs to a 1-of-21 effort with runners on base and a 1-for-8 effort with runners in scoring position... Mississippi State was 3-for-15 with two outs.
