MONROE, La. – Big throws, coupled with big swings earned junior Alton Clay Jr. from the ULM track and field program and Amye Barre from the softball squad Warhawk Male and Female of the Week honors, respectively, announced Tuesday.
Clay, a junior, posted a huge outing for ULM in two different events, setting a personal-record in each on Saturday at Mississippi State's Jace LaCoste Invite. Clay was crowned champion of the discus after tallying a 54.42m which smashed his previous best of 51.16m. He followed it up with a second-place finish of 58.43m in the hammer.
Clay now ranks fourth in the Sun Belt Conference in the discus and top-five in the hammer. He's also top-25 in the NCAA East Region in the discus and No. 44 in the hammer.
Barre, a senior, hit .545 during this week's five-game stretch which included a hit in four of five games and multiple hits twice. She also hit homers in two consecutive contests versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Southern Miss.
The Luling, Louisiana native scored and drove in a run in two of five games. She added a walk and five hit-by-pitches to post an astounding .706 on-base percentage. Her slugging percentage for the week was 1.182. The double she hit in game one versus Georgia State resulted in her being plated as the game-winning run in the 2-0 win over the Panthers.
It marked the second Warhawk of the Week honors this season for both Clay and Barre.
