MONROE, La. – The ULM football team closed fall camp on Thursday afternoon with an hour and 45 minute practice session, as the Warhawks close the book on preseason training and set their attention on the 2016 season opener against Southern next Saturday night.
While the beginning pieces of the Southern game plan were sprinkled in the last few days of practice, head coach Matt Viator and his staff used the past week to fine tune everything on the ULM team. The consensus among players and coaches alike was the same – it's about time preseason camp is over.
“You need to see a different colored jersey on both sides of the football. You get tired of going against each other and it's certainly that time” Viator stated. “I think we have progressed a lot (over the course of camp). They have come to work every day and done when we want them to. They have picked up on the offense and defense pretty good. All in all, I'm pleased.”
The Warhawks will have Friday and Saturday off from the practice field but will get back to work on Sunday night as game week ensues. Viator says his team will continue to work on special teams and situational plays over the next week while implementing the Southern game plan.
ULM and Southern kick off next Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. inside JPS Field at Malone Stadium. Individual game tickets and parking passes for the game are available by calling 342-HAWK or via this link.
