TEXAS – The ULM tennis team competed in two tournaments on Friday & Saturday which included the Warhawks getting a finalist into the Under Armour/Heb Kickoff and two Warhawks are playing for their flight titles on Sunday in Dallas.
NOTABLES
-In Dallas, following a brief delay, the Warhawks began the day facing some strong competition. Ioana Popescu opened the SMU Invitational with a three-set win over a member of the SMU team winning 6-3,3-6,6-1. Popescu on Saturday defeated Air Force 6-4,6-4 to move onto the flight championship on Sunday against UTSA.
-Luana Stanciu dropped a two set decision to Sam Houston State losing 5-7, 1-6. Stanciu in the consolation side of the bracket defeated Northwestern State 6-2,6-2 to move onto Sunday's consolation final against Houston.
-Patricia Villar was a two set winner over Texas A&M-CC on Friday winning 6-2,6-3. On Saturday she defeated Incarnate Word 6-3,2-6,6-2 to move onto her flight championship against Texas A&M-CC.
-In Waco, the Warhawks started singles play strong as they played in a 32 player draw.
-Stefana Andrei won a pair of matches on Friday against Troy and Wisconsin. Andrei won the match against Troy 6-4, 6-2 while beating Wisconsin in 6-3,6-3. On Saturday, she faced off against Mississippi State and won 6-5,7-6(7),6-3 before falling to teammate Tiffany Mylonas in the semis.
-Tiffany Mylonas had strong wins on Friday over Georgia State and Troy. She won against Georgia State 6-0, 6-1 and defeated Troy 6-1, 6-2. On Saturday she won a pair of matches in route to Sunday's championship against the host Baylor.
-Madalina Grigoriu successfully defeated Mississippi State Friday before falling to Baylor in round two. Grigoriu defeated Mississippi State 6-4,6-1 before dropping the match against Baylor 1-6,3-6.
-Karolina Snita split her matches on Friday much like Grigoriu. Snita won against Mississippi State before falling to Wisconsin. In her Mississippi State match Snita won 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 before falling in her match to Wisconsin 2-6, 6-7. She moves into Saturday's play taking on
-In doubles action in Waco, both duos dropped a tough match. Mylonas and Andrei fell against Wisconsin 5-8 while Snita and Grigoriu fell 3-8 against Troy.

-ULM finishes play in both tournaments on Sunday with the Warhawks looking to continue their strong performances in both Waco and Dallas.
