MONROE, La. – The ULM women's golf team and first-year head coach Joni Stephens concluded their first fall schedule together as the team continues to improve and move towards the spring season and Sun Belt Conference play.
“I am proud of our Warhawks. The hard work is paying off for us. Every round we are learning and growing as competitors while moving closer to our team goals,” Stephens said.
The Warhawks played in four fall events between September and the start of November, finishing inside the top eight in team scoring in three of the four events.
The team's best finish came at the Southern Miss-hosted Gold Eagle Jam in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where they grabbed a fourth place finish in the two-day event. ULM also added a seventh place finish in the three-day Chris Banister Golf Classic played in Glencoe, Alabama and tied for eighth at the Missouri State-hosted Payne Stewart Memorial to open the fall.
ULM's best finish in the fall of 2015 was an eighth place finish. Final finishing positions are not the only thing on the upswing for the Warhawk women, as their total team scores for 18 holes in all four events were lower than the best fall 2015 team score, as were all four of the program's final 54-hole totals this fall as compared to a year ago.
Individually, each of the eight players who played in the fall improved both their tournament average round scores as well as seeing their lowest round scores all drop from last fall.
The Warhawks open the spring portion of the schedule at the end of February at the Islander Classic hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and will play four total tournaments leading up to the Sun Belt Championship in mid-April played in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
