Monroe, La. - The ULM women's basketball team closes out the weekend at Little Rock on Saturday as the team heads into the heart of Sun Belt Conference play.
NOTABLES
Sun Belt Conference: The Warhawks started the Sun Belt Conference season with a 71-56 loss to Arkansas State. Over the last six years, ULM holds a 2-4 record in season openers.
Non-Conference: The Warhawks closed non-conference play 3-8. The team boasted wins over Centenary College, LSUA and Houston Baptist.
About the Opponent: Little Rock finished their non-conference season at an even keel with a 6-6 overall record. Of their six home games, only two of them have been losses - both to teams that were in the Top 25 (Texas A&M and Mississippi State). Much like the Warhawks, the Trojans opened play in the Sun Belt Thursday. Little Rock faced a tough Louisiana team and came from 15 points down to win the game 64-60.
Individuals leading the league (12-30-16): Gabriella Cortez leads up the Sun Belt in free throw percentage having missed only two on the season with a percentage of 94.7. Also topping the charts in the Sun Belt is Stephanie Ratliff, who is at the top of the list in total rebounds with 104.
FROM COACH DOW
About Little Rock: Year in and year out they are one of the best half court man-to-man defenses that you will see in the Sun Belt. It is common place for them to hold their opponent under 50 points. They are a very physical team and do a great job of taking away your first and second options within your set plays. On the other end of the floor, Little Rock has a lot of five out motion and constant screening and cutting. They are also very physical in setting their screens. They do a great job in their motion offense. Little Rock is a little bit different in that there is not necessarily set pattern as to what is going to happen in that possession.
What we need to do: We have to be patient offensively and do what we do, making sure that we get great shots up on every possession. We have to make sure that we are communicating on the screens.
