Personal Bests Fall as ULM Opens Track Season

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The ULM men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2017 season on Friday afternoon, compiling eight personal bests in the Warhawks' first of four indoor meets leading up to the Sun Belt Championships in February.

NOTABLES

-Junior Dominique Allen finished with a pair of personal bests on Friday, first notching a new indoor-PR in the shot put with a distance of 13.68 meters before turning around and erasing that new record with a throw of 13.90 meters as she finished third in the event.

-In the long jump ULM saw new personal bests hit on both the men's and women's side, as freshman Dahndre Washington finished 10th in the men's long jump with his distance of 6.51 meters, while sophomore Payton Simpson's distance of 5.14 meters gave her a 19th place finish in the women's long jump.

-Sophomore Brandon McDonald shaved 10 seconds off his time for a new personal best in the men's mile, running a time of 4:24.28 as he finished 13th overall.

-Junior Brice Chaney notched a new PR in the shot put portion of the decathlon, finishing with a distance of 12.83 meters and shaving off 45 centimeters from his previous best. In the same men's shot put, senior Jevaughn Shaw finished fourth overall with a distance of 16.04 meters for a new indoor personal best, while the distance was just 0.01 meter off of his outdoor personal best as well.

-Distance runner Kipkirui Victor finished seventh overall in the men's 3,000 meter run, as the sophomore set a new personal best time in the event with his time of 8:44.06.

-Friday's event featured 13 teams, as ULM competed against: Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana, North Texas, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston State, Texas-Rio Grande Valley, Texas A&M-CC, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas Southern.

UP NEXT

-Following today's meet, ULM now begins preparation for the Houston Invitational. The Warhawks run in the two-day event starting on Friday, January 27 in Houston.
