Monroe, La. -  The ULM softball team dropped a pair of games at the Georgia Classic on Friday, falling in a tight, 1-0 game against Dayton and slipping 9-0 to tournament host and 10th-ranked Georgia.

TURNING POINT

-In the opener, Dayton scored the game's only run via back-to-back hits in the fourth inning after a double earlier in the inning as both teams finished with five hits.

-Host Georgia struck first with four runs in both the first and second innings before adding what proved to be the final run in the fourth inning while holding the Warhawks to only one hit in the contest.

NOTABLES

-Against Dayton, Bailey Thibodeaux finished with two of the Warhawks' five hits. Sydney McKay, Melanie Coyne and Sami Billeaudeau each contributed one hit apiece in the loss.

-Melanie Coyne notched her third start of the season against Dayton, allowing the one run on five hits with two strikeouts over six innings of work.

-Dayton's Gabrielle Snyder connected on a one-out double in the fourth before scoring on Katie Ryan's RBI single moments later.

-Against Georgia, the Warhawks grabbed only one hit, a leadoff single by Sydney McKay to begin the fourth.

-Georgia finished with seven hits, as both Mahlena O'Neal and Justice Milz collected two hits. 

-Sydney Wader was saddled with the loss, allowing eight runs, five hits and five walks over 2 1/3 innings.

"I was very proud of the way Mel pitched and the defense we played in game one (against Dayton). We had several chances to score in that game and just didn't get the timely hit."

UP NEXT

The Warhawks continue play in the Georgia Classic on Saturday with another matchup against Georgia and a meeting against Northern Kentucky in day two action.
