Men?s Basketball Concludes 2009 Hosting Troy

MONROE, La. – The ULM men's basketball team ends the 2009 calendar year with a New Year's Eve matinee against Troy at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Game time between the Warhawk and Trojans is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The contest is part of Holiday Dollar Days at ULM and admission will be just $1. In addition to admission, various candies and small popcorn will also be just $1, Holiday Dollar Days continues at ULM through Jan. 2.

The Warhawks (5-8, 0-2 Sun Belt) enter Thursday's contest on a two-game winning streak after downing the University of the Southwest on Monday night (Dec. 28), 99-70. Five Warhawks scored in double figures against the Mustangs, led by 20 points from junior forward Rudy Turner. In the last two contests, Turner is averaging 20.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks.

With his 16 points against the University of the Southwest, senior guard Tony Hooper moved into the top-10 in school history in scoring, Hooper has amassed 1,441 points in his career as a Warhawk. Hooper is also just 15 steals shy of breaking the ULM career steals record and also ranks in the top-10 in three-point field goals made and assists.

Troy comes to Monroe with a 6-6 record, 1-0 in the Sun Belt having defeated New Orleans, 78-76, at home in their conference opener. Last time out, the Trojans lost to Marshall, 78-75, at home, their first home loss of the season. Brandon Hazzard lead the scoring attack for Troy, averaging 17.6 points per game. Three other Trojans score in double figures, including Yamene Coleman, who is also the leading rebounder for Troy, pulling down 7.4 boards per contest.

ULM and Troy are tied in the all-time series between the two schools, 2-2. The Warhawks won the first two meetings and the Trojans have taken the last pair, including a 71-70 decision at Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Jan. 17, 2009, the last meeting between the Warhawks and Trojans. The two schools will meet again on Jan. 28 at Troy.
