Men?s Basketball Concludes Homestand Saturday Against UALR

MONROE, La – The ULM men's basketball team will play its first game of 2010 on Saturday (Jan. 2) when it hosts UALR in the second half of a basketball doubleheader at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The ULM women's team will host UALR at 2 p.m., before the Warhawk and Trojan men faceoff at 4:30 p.m.

The doubleheader is part of Holiday Dollar Days at ULM and admission will be just $1. In addition to admission, various candies and small popcorn will also be just $1.

ULM (5-9, 0-3 Sun Belt) is coming off an 83-82 loss on Thursday (Dec. 31) at home against Troy. The Warhawks trailed the Trojans by as much as 15 before battling all the way back and seeing their last-second attempt to win the game fall just short. Junior forward Tommie Sykes scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to lead ULM in the loss. Sykes scored 17 of his 23 points from the free-throw line.

Last time out, UALR (4-10, 0-3 Sun Belt) dropped an 83-78 decision on Thursday (Dec. 31) at North Texas to remain winless in Sun Belt play. The Mean Green is one of two common opponents for ULM and UALR; the Trojans also fell at Louisiana Tech, 86-66, earlier this season (Nov. 25). Solomon Bozeman leads UALR in scoring, averaging 14.6 points per contest. Mike Smith is the leading rebounder for the Trojans, pulling down 5.9 boards per game.

UALR leads the all-time series with ULM, 8-6. The Trojans won both meetings between the two schools last season, taking a 95-87 decision in overtime in Little Rock and a 70-61 victory in Monroe. This will be the seventh all-time meeting between the Warhawks and Trojans in Monroe, the two schools have split the first six.
