- ULM defensive end Troy Evans was selected to the Sun Belt Preseason
All-Conference Team and the Warhawks were tabbed seventh in the Sun Belt
Preseason Poll, the league office announced Monday morning to kick off its
annual media days. The all-conference team was selected by a combination of
media voters and the league's nine head coaches while the preseason poll was
voted on by just the head coaches.
Evans finished
second on the team and fifth in the Sun Belt last season with 6.5 sacks during
his sophomore season. He was named to the All-Louisiana second team and was a
first team All-Sun Belt selection by Phil Steele. Evans also ranked second on
the team and 18th in the Sun Belt with 8.5 tackles for loss.
The
Shreveport, La., native was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week
after recording a pair of sacks on back-to-back plays on Arkansas State's final
possession to preserve a ULM victory over the Red Wolves on ESPN2 last year in Malone Stadium.
Coming off its
second bowl eligible season in the past three years, ULM return seven starters on offense, four on defense, its starting long snappers and place kicker. The Warhawks proved the coaches wrong
last season as they finished third in the league after being picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll. Middle Tennessee was tabbed as the preseason
favorite by two points over defending champion Troy.
The Warhawk
players to camp on Aug. 11 and begin practice the following day in preparation
for the season opener against Arkansas in Little Rock, Ark., on Sept. 11.
