LAS VEGAS - The ULM soccer team dropped a 4-0
decision to UNLV on Sunday afternoon in the final match of the Las Vegas
Invitational at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
The two teams dedicated the day to the late
father of ULM senior and Las Vegas native Tiffany Bombard, Timmy, by wearing blue wrist bands during
the match. Bombard was honored for his influence on the game of soccer in the
Las Vegas area.
The Warhawks (1-2) held UNLV to just one goal
in the final 45 minutes of the match after the Rebels jumped out to an early
3-0 advantage. UNLV (3-0) received a pair of goals from leading-scorer Ashleigh
Shoughro.
ULM goalkeeper Alex Holland recorded nine
saves in the match, one shy of reaching double-digit saves in back-to-back
matches.
Shoughro opened the scoring in the sixth
minute off an assist from Katherine Orellana. Shoughro slipped her shot under Holland
from the middle of the box to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead.
UNLV grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 20th minute with
a goal from Colette Jepson. The Rebels struck again in the 41st minute with a score
off the foot of Sarah Naranjo. Shoughro added her second goal of the match and
sixth of the season in the 86th minute with an assist from Amanda Forrester.
Kelly Riley and Amy Porch paced ULM with one
shot each in the match.
The Warhawks return home against Centenary on
Friday at 4 p.m. at the ULM Soccer Complex.
