MONROE, La. - ULM track and field head coach James Malone officially announced Monday the hiring of Larry Jones as an assistant coach with the Warhawks. Jones will work primarily with the ULM throwers.

Jones lettered in track and field for four seasons at Louisiana Tech (2008-11), earning All-American honors as a senior in 2011.  He was a two-time NCAA Championship qualifier for the Bulldogs, setting the school record in the javelin in 2008 and reaching the semifinals in the discus in 2010.  Jones received Outdoor All-WAC first team honors three times, and was a two-time Outdoor WAC Champion in the discus (2009 and 2010).

A three-time district champion in the discus at Ruston High School, Jones was also the 2005 district champion for javelin.  He claimed state championships in the discus in 2005 and 2006, setting the Louisiana 5A record in the process.  A high school All-American selection, Jones was the 2005 National Junior Olympic Champion in the discus, and was named Mr. Field Louisiana in 2006.

Both the men's and women's track and field squads will be back in action next weekend as they travel to the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. The meet runs all day on both Friday and Saturday.
