MONROE, La. - The ULM softball team begins the 2012 season
this weekend when it hosts the 24th annual ULM Mardi Gras Classic at
the ULM Softball Complex. The tournament runs Friday through Sunday and
features five other teams including Southeast Missouri State, IUPUI and
SIU-Edwardsville as well as in-state opponents Northwestern State and Grambling
State.
The ULM Softball Complex received a facelift following last
season including brand new state-of-the-art dugouts and scoreboard featuring a
message board, among other upgrades. ULM President Nick Bruno, Director of
Athletics Bobby Staub and the Softball Athletic Foundation were instrumental in
completing the project.
To show their appreciation for the support, the Warhawks
invited Dr. Bruno to throw the first pitch for ULM's first game at 12 p.m. on
Friday.
The Mardi Gras Classic kicks off at 10 a.m. on Friday when
Southeast Missouri State and Grambling State face-off, followed by ULM's first
game of the season against SIU-Edwardsville. The Warhawks play once more Friday
at 4 p.m. against IUPUI.
ULM hits the field twice on Saturday when it takes on
Northwestern State at 11 a.m. and Southeast Missouri State at 3 p.m. The
Warhawks face Grambling State in their final game of the Mardi Gras Classic
Sunday at 1 p.m.
Fans are invited to come cheer on the Warhawks and check out
the new additions to the ULM Softball Complex. An all-weekend pass is available
for $25 on Friday or fans can purchase single-day passes for $10. For those who
can't attend in person, a live webstream and live stats will be available for
every tournament game on ulmwarhawks.com.
After their home-opening weekend the Warhawks travel to
Houston, Texas, to play in the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational next Saturday and
Sunday.
