MONROE, La. - ULM
volleyball head coach Ernest Vasquez announced Tuesday the addition of BJ Trame
to the Warhawks staff as an assistant coach. The appointment is pending final
approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
"BJ is the kind of coach I've wanted for a long time now,"
said head coach Ernest Vasquez. "He brings a lot of Division I experience after
working for two very well-established programs under respected head coaches."
Trame spent his past three seasons as an assistant coach for
Illinois State, where his primary duty was serving as the recruiting
coordinator.
His ability for finding quality talent has proven itself as
the Redbirds finished third at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament the
past two seasons. During his tenure he helped coach two MVAC first team selections
and one second team selection, as well as three freshman team picks and six
scholar-athletes. Another player was also chosen for the USA Volleyball A2
program.
"The benefit of having such a seasoned assistant coach is it's
only going to increase the level of success we have started on the road toward
these past two years," said Vasquez. "Now that our team has begun to show its
potential, we have been able to attract the kind of talent and knowledge BJ has
to offer."
Trame has been a member of a championship winning staff after
he began his collegiate coaching career at Miami University in 2006. As a
graduate assistant coach, he helped guide the RedHawks to a Mid-American
Conference Championship in 2007.
During his time at Miami, where he received his
undergraduate education, Trame also coached the women's club team. He worked
with the program for two seasons, first as an assistant coach for the 2005-06
season before moving up to head coach in 2006-07. He was also a player on the
men's club team from 2003-06.
He spent a season at the University of Findlay between his
jobs at Miami and Illinois State where he performed a variety of roles as the
interim assistant coach.
Not a stranger to winning national championships, Trame also
secured a title as a club volleyball coach. As head coach for the Ohio Valley
Performance Region his team won the 2007 USA Volleyball High Performance
Championship. He also coached the Boderline junior volleyball club team during
the same tenure, which spanned from 2002-08.
Trame earned two bachelor's degrees from Miami in history
and sports studies with a minor in coaching. His master's degree is in sports
behavior and performance with an emphasis on sports psychology.
