MONROE, La. -- The ULM soccer team looks to
continue its winning ways when it plays host to Middle Tennessee and Western
Kentucky this weekend. The Warhawks take on the Blue Raiders on Friday at 3
p.m. and wrap up the weekend against the Lady Toppers at 1 p.m.
ULM (4-8,
1-2 SBC) is coming off a 1-0 shutout victory at UALR on Sunday which snapped
the Warhawks' 25-match conference losing skid. Freshman Karlea Fehr once again provided the offensive punch with the only
goal of the match in the 57th minute. That was more than enough for the ULM
defense, which limited UALR to just six shots on goal in the match. Senior
goalkeeper Alex Holland earned her second
solo shutout of the season with six saves in the match.
Fehr
leads the Warhawks in virtually every offensive category, including goals (4),
assists (4), points (12), shots (31), shots on goal (17) and game-winning goals
(2). She also has both of the team's goals in conference play. Freshman Kelley O'Dwyer has contributed two
goals and three assists for seven points to rank second on the team.
Middle
Tennessee (9-3, 4-0 SBC) has rolled through the early portion of its conference
schedule having outscored its opponents 13-4. The Blue Raiders are statistically
the best offensive team in the Sun Belt with 41 goals and 112 points on the season.
In addition, Paige Goeglein leads
the Sun Belt in goals (9), points (21) and game-winning goals (6), and Whitney Jorgenson ranks second in the
conference with six assists.
The
Warhawks are 0-8 all-time against Middle Tennessee and 0-6 since joining the
Sun Belt in 2006. The Blue Raiders defeated the Warhawks 3-1 last season in
Monroe. Sophomore Taylor Bonetti had
the Warhawks' goal in the 89th minute of the match.
Western
Kentucky (8-4, 3-1 SBC) enters the weekend following a pair of overtime matches
in Florida last week. The The Lady Toppers scored in the 94th minute to defeat
Florida Atlantic 1-0 on Friday. The Lady Toppers followed up with a 1-0 loss to
FIU in the 95th minute on Sunday. The WKU defense has not allowed a goal in
regulation in five consecutive matches as the Lady Toppers have gone 4-1 during
that span. Amanda Buechel (7) and Lauren Moats (5) have combined to score
12 of the Lady Toppers' 21 goals this season.
ULM has
gone 0-6 all-time Western Kentucky despite playing the Lady Toppers tough in
Monroe. The Warhawks' gave up just a penalty kick goal in last season's 1-0
loss to the Lady Toppers.
Up
next, the travel to the sunshine state for conference matches against Florida
Atlantic (Oct. 12) and FIU (Oct. 14).
