MONROE, La. -- The ULM track
& field team makes its season debut at the McNeese Indoor
Invitational on Friday in Lake Charles, La.
The Warhawk men and women will be part of a field that also includes
host McNeese State, UL-Lafayette, Lamar, Northwestern State, Southeastern
Louisiana, Southern, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Nicholls State, New Orleans
and Dillard.
The ULM men return four athletes that earned All-Louisiana honors last
season, highlighted by senior Daniel Mutai. Mutai has had a decorated career
for the Warhawks, which includes an appearance at last season's NCAA Outdoor
Championships in the 10,000-meter run and two appearances at the NCAA Cross
Country Championships (2010 & 2011).
Senior Clint Broussard (high jump), sophomore Jamel Sams (400 hurdles)
and senior Dimitri Hampton (400 relay) also earn All-Louisiana honors for the
Warhawks last season.
On the women's side, senior Danielle O'Donnell is the leading returner
after earning All-Louisiana honors in the high jump. O'Donnell also placed
fifth in the pentathlon at last season's Indoor Sun Belt Championships.
The McNeese Invitational begins at 11 a.m. on Friday with the field
events. The running events will get going at 4 p.m.
