MONROE, La. -- ULM has reached an agreement with Wake Forest for a
home-and-home series and the two schools will meet in Winston-Salem, N.C. on
September 14th. Wake Forest will make
the return trip to Monroe in 2014 and the matchup between the Warhawks and the
Demon Deacons will serve as the home opener for ULM.
“I think with the success of the Baylor game this
past season, it is significant that we are able to bring quality teams to
Malone Stadium,” said head football coach Todd Berry. “Coach Jim Grobe has done an incredible job
at Wake Forest and he puts a great team on the field each year. They have been a factor in the ACC for several
years and they have had some tremendous seasons. We are very excited about
playing against a great team.”
The inaugural meeting with Wake Forest pushes ULM's non-conference schedule
to five games as the Warhawks filled the vacant spot left by the early
departures by Middle Tennessee and Florida Atlantic.
"We're excited about this home and home arrangement with
Wake Forest," said director of athletics, Bobby Staub. "This is a
tremendous way to open the 2014 campaign in Monroe and it will be something I
know our students, alumni and the community at large will be looking forward to
and support as they did the Baylor game from this past season."
ULM will also battle Oklahoma (Norman, Okla.; Aug. 31), Grambling State
(Malone Stadium; Sept. 7), Baylor (Waco, Texas; Sept. 21) and Tulane (Malone
Stadium; Sept. 28) during the non-conference season.
"When you look at our schedule it is a very competitive schedule," Berry
added. "The 2013 schedule allows us to
showcase our abilities. The conference
lineup is great and our non-conference slate allows us to gain national
exposure. After the success we had last
season, it gives us a chance for a follow up as we again will play on a
national stage. It will be a great
challenge that our players are very much looking forward to."
The conference will have eight football playing members in 2013, meaning the
Warhawks will battle all seven conference foes.
ULM will welcome Arkansas State, Georgia State, and Western Kentucky to
Malone Stadium, while making trips to South Alabama, Texas State, Troy and
UL-Lafayette.
