Box Score MONROE, La. -- ULM improved
its record to 8-1 on the season with 7-0 sweep over conference foe UALR on
Saturday at Heard Stadium. The Warhawks opened the match by winning the doubles
point to take a 1-0 advantage, and then rolled through the first three singles
matches to clinch the match.
The Warhawks are now 5-0 at home this season and winners of 10 consecutive
matches at Heard Stadium dating back to last season.
"I am proud of the way our girls played this weekend in dominating
Nicholls State and UALR," ULM head coach Terrence De Jongh said. "Both teams
came in with winning records and we beat them both soundly. It's always good to
play well in front of the home fans and it gives us momentum heading into our
match Monday."
ULM got wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to earn the doubles point for
the ninth time this season. Ema Turudija
and Sophie Rufyikiri defeated Veronique Luksich and Michaela McShane, 8-1
and Medy Blankvoort and Justyna Krol beat Viktoriya Plyuta and Christel
Amsallem, 8-1, to seal the doubles point.
Petra Horakova made quick work of Amsallem, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6 singles
to give the Warhawks a 2-0 advantage. Blankvoort followed suit by defeating Plyuta,
6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles and Krol knocked off McShane, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5
singles to clinch the match.
Turudija battled back from a 5-4 in the first set to defeat Dané
Vorster, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 4 singles. The only drama in the match came at No. 3
singles where Silvia Tumova came back to defeat Kamilla Galieva, 1-6, 6-4 (10-3), and finish off the sweep.
Sunday's home match with Southern has been postponed due to inclement
weather and no makeup date has been set. The Warhawks are back in action Monday
when they host UAB at noon at Heard Stadium.
