ULM Falls to WKU Saturday Night

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- WKU scored seven of the final eight runs as it claimed a 7-2 win over ULM and even the series in a cool and rainy night at Nick Denes Field.

For the second consecutive night, the Warhawks (17-30, 6-17) plated the first run of the game.  With runners on the corners and two out in the second, Jeff Fuller took off for second base but was caught in a rundown.  Dalton Herrington was able to touch home plate before Fuller was tagged out to give ULM a 1-0 lead.

WKU (23-24, 12-11) scored its first run of the game and took the lead as the homestanding club plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.  With one out in the frame, Regan Flaherty drove in Ryan Huck with a RBI double to the gap in left center to even the game at 1-1.  Flaherty scored later in the inning as he crossed home when Devin Kelly reached on a fielding error by first baseman Corben Green.

The Hilltoppers plated three runs in the fifth to increase their lead to four runs at 5-1.  Blake Crabtree highlighted the WKU inning with a two-out, two-RBI single through the left side.

ULM closed the gap to three runs (5-2) as the Warhawks plated one run in the top of the sixth.  Judd Edwards led off the inning with a double that fell in fair territory along the right field line and moved to third on a wild pitch.  Edwards was able to score as Green reached first base on a fielding error by Huck, the WKU first baseman.

WKU set the final tally at 7-2 as the plated two runs in the eighth on a two-RBI single to right field by Scott Wilcox.

ULM starter Shelby Aulds was tagged with the loss and falls to 4-6 on the season after allowing four earned runs (five total) on 10 hits with one strikeout in 4.1 innings of work.

WKU's Andrew Edwards (5-2) earned the win after surrendering just two runs on two hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in seven innings of work.

The two teams will return to action tomorrow afternoon with the series finale scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
