BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The ULM baseball team was on the wrong end of a pair of walkoffs on Sunday afternoon, as host UAB took both games of a Sunday doubleheader to sweep the Warhawks and hand ULM a 4-3 game one loss and a 3-2 defeat in game two.

                             UAB 3, ULM 2 – Game Two (10 Innings)

LOCATION: Regions Field / Birmingham, Alabama

                    UAB (11-5, 0-0 CUSA)

TURNING POINT

-In game one, UAB use a pair of singles in the bottom of the eighth to put runners on the corners and set up the winning squeeze bunt on a 3-1 pitch to take the opening game of the day. The second game saw the Blazers use a one-out triple in the 10th inning score on a single moments later to give the hosts the second walkoff.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-In game one, ULM took a one run lead on Nate Reynolds’ RBI single in the top of the third inning and held the lead until the fifth, when UAB tied things up with a run scoring on a wild pitch. The hosts would add two runs in the sixth, via a solo homer and an RBI single, before the Warhawks tied the game in the top of the seventh (their last at-bat in the scheduled seven inning game) on Cade Harper’s pinch hit, two run double down the left field line that sent the game into extra innings.

-ULM finished with eight hits, led by Spencer Hemphill and Brady McGehee, who each tallied two hits in the loss. Blake Buckman (1-for-3) and Harper each had doubles.

-Warhawk reliever Chase Cater was saddled with the loss after entering the game in the eighth inning and giving up the one run on three hits. ULM starter Keegan Curtis did not factor into the decision despite a seven inning performance, allowing three runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts.

-ULM left seven men on base in the opening game, including two baserunners in both the seventh and eighth innings.

-The second game saw UAB take the lead in the bottom of the first via a Warhawk throwing error before ULM took the lead with a pair of runs in the second inning on Cade Stone’s RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Anthony Herrera.

-UAB tied the game in the bottom of the third on a single back up the middle, and the game remained that way until the Blazer 10th inning played out.

-Herrera was left with the loss after tossing 4 1/3 innings of relief, allowing four hits with five strikeouts. Starter Chase Beal did not factor in the decision, exiting after five innings in which he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

-ULM left 10 total baserunners stranded in the second game, including two runners in the fourth, seventh and 10th frames as they had at least one runner left on base in every inning past the sixth.
