MONROE, La. – The ULM baseball team stranded nine runners across the evening, including five over the final three at-bats, as the Warhawks fell to visiting Jackson State by a 2-0 score on Wednesday night. The contest was ULM’s first at home in over two weeks, as the Warhawks now get set to open Sun Belt Conference play on the road this weekend at Arkansas State

TURNING POINT

-ULM put runners on first and second with one out in the seventh before a strikeout for the second out of the inning and Jackson State escaped the jam when a Warhawk runner was thrown out trying to score on an outfield single to end the frame. The Warhawks had a similar situation in the ninth, with runners on second and third and one out, but a fly out and a strikeout ended the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Jackson State took the lead in the top of the second inning via a one out single that later scored on an RBI base hit back up the middle before the visitors added to the lead in the fifth via a two-out single that scored on an RBI single down the left field line.

-Cade Harper and B.J. Findley each finished with two hits to lead ULM in the loss, while five other players had one hit each. Harper (double in the ninth) and Johnny DeLaCruz (leadoff triple in the eighth) were the lone extra-base hits for the Warhawks.

-ULM trotted out eight different pitchers as part of a staff day, with Trey Auger saddled with the loss after allowing one run on two hits over the opening two innings as the Warhawk starter. Seven other Warhawk relievers combined to allow one run on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

UP NEXT

-The Warhawks head back out on the road this weekend when they open Sun Belt Conference play with a three-game series at Arkansas State. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights before a 1:00 p.m. series finale on Sunday afternoon.
