Troy, Ala. - The ULM softball team used timely offense on Friday to take down Troy in both games of the doubleheader, taking game one by a 3-1 score in extra innings before a 2-1 victory in the second game of the day. The Warhawks will now look for a Sun Belt series sweep for the second weekend in a row after taking down Appalachian State last weekend at home.

-Tied 1-1 in extra innings in the opener, Jayden Mount connected on a two-run homer in the top of the ninth on a 2-2 pitch that proved to be the difference.

-The second game saw Jessie Watts deliver an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning that plated Sydney McKay as ULM closed the game out in the bottom of the seventh.

-In game one, the Warhawks were led by Mount’s two hits, including the big home run. Melanie Coyne, Cheyanne Lyon, Hunter Hogan and Samantha Agamaite (RBI) each added a hit apiece in the extra inning win.

-Melanie Coyne went the distance in the win, tossing all nine innings and giving up just two hits and one earned run while striking out seven Trojans.

-ULM took the lead in the top of the sixth on Agamaite’s RBI single back up the middle before Troy used a walk and an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

-In game two, Coyne paced the ULM offense with three hits and the lone RBI in the win, while Sydney McKay and Watts added two hits apiece. Mount, Agamaite and Shaw each had a hit apiece in win.

-Paige Porter started in the circle for the Warhawks and scattered eight hits and struck out five batters over the first 4 1/3 innings, while Watts earned the win after tossing the last 1 2/3 innings, giving up one hit while striking out two Trojan batters.

-Coyne’s bunt single gave ULM the lead in the top of the third before Troy tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Faced with going to extra innings again, Watts pushed the Warhawks ahead in the top of the seventh, driving in McKay, who doubled with two outs to set up the Watts hit.

-The Warhawks and Troy meet on Saturday in the series finale with first pitch slated for 2:00 p.m.
