MONROE, La.?The defending Sun Belt Conference Champion
ULM baseball team opened up practice for the 2009 season on Sunday
afternoon. Preseason camp will continue
until the Warhawks open the season on Feb. 20 against Northwestern State.
The Warhawks spent the first day of practice working on
fielding drills before the pitchers and hitters squared off against each other
for the first time since the fall.
“It was a good day,” head coach Jeff Schexnaider said. “Everyone
was excited and the energy level was really high. The pitchers enjoyed throwing
against hitters instead of just in the bullpen and the hitters enjoyed hitting
off of someone other than our coaches.
It was a solid opening day and I am looking forward to the rest of camp
to see where we are at."
The Warhawks will host their annual Kid's Clinic and Fan
Day on Sunday, Feb. 15, at Warhawk Field. The day begins at 2:30 p.m. with the
clinic put on by the ULM coaches and players. Following the clinic, the players and coaches will sign
autographs and then play an intersquad scrimmage -- the scrimmage will start at 2:30 p.m.
