Blankvoort Earns Sun Belt All-Conference Recognition
NEW ORLEANS - ULM's Medy Blankvoort was recognized for her near-perfect performance in singles action this season as she was named a member of the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis All-Conference team by the league office Wednesday evening. The honor is the first of her career.
Blankvoort dominated her competition during the 2012 season by winning 15 consecutive matches over the first four singles spots. Her winning streak was 16 matches overall which included her victory over Denver's Emma Isberg in last year's Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
The sophomore's undefeated reign ended in the second-to-last match of the regular season against UAB, when she narrowly fell to Isabel Fernandez 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. She brings a 15-1 record into the start of postseason play Thursday morning.
The native of Huizen, The Netherlands, was a perfect 6-0 at No. 3 singles while and went 1-0 and 3-0 at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. Blankvoort was 5-1 in the No. 2 spot.
The Warhawks begin the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championship tomorrow morning in Denton, Texas. After a revision of the original seeding released Tuesday afternoon, ULM moved up to the No. 5 seed overall and instead of Middle Tennessee, it faces No. 12 Western Kentucky at 11:30 a.m. If ULM wins, it will go on to play No. 4 Denver in the quarterfinals Friday at 11:30 a.m.
