MONROE, La. - The ULM tennis team lead by seventh year head coach Terrence De Jongh and returning All-Sun Belt performer Medy Blankvoort will begin its fall campaign with competition in the SFA Fall Invitational on Friday and Saturday. ULM competed last season in the SFA tournament.

"We are excited to follow up a strong season last year and see where we can improve this season," said De Jongh.

The Warhawks added the Stephen F. Austin Invitational to the schedule this week, so they will traveling just three student-athletes as Blankvoort, Silvia Tumova and Iris Van Leeuwen will compete in Nacogdoches, Texas this weekend.

Other fall tournaments include the UL-Lafayette Invitational (Oct. 5-7), UT-Arlington Tournament (Oct. 12-14), ITA Southern Regional Championship (Oct. 19-22) in Tuscaloosa, Ala. and the Golden Eagles Halloween Classic (Oct. 26-27) in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The roster returns four Warhawks that saw action last spring paced by Blankvoort who went 16-1. Sophie Rufyikiri returns after a solid freshman campaign where she went 9-9 playing mostly at No. 1 singles. Tumova finished 11-5 while Ema Turudija went 11-2.

The newcomers to the roster include Justyna Krol from Chorzow, Poland and Van Leeuwen from Rotterdam, Netherlands.

In doubles, Rufyikiri and Tumova went 12-5, Blankvoort and departing senior Monica Winkel finished 12-4 and Turudija and another senior, Vivian Polak went 13-3.

Last fall at Lafayette, Blankvoort collected a three-set win in the championship match pf A1 singles and teamed up with Winkel to win the A1 doubles championship. Blankvoort won all four of her singles matches including three over Sun Belt opponents.

Other fall highlights from last season include Polak winning the Flight C championship at Stephen F. Austin and the Warhawks winning the B Draw for the second straight year as Polak took home the title.
