ULM Drops 3-0 Decision to Middle Tennessee
MONROE, La. -- The ULM Warhawks (4-10, 0-5 Sun Belt) were swept 3-0 by Middle Tennessee (5-15, 2-3 Sun Belt) Friday night at the ULM Activity Center.
ULM was led by senior outside hitters Samantha Morse and Zuzana Markova, who each tallied eight kills. Junior middle blocker Maria Garcia paced the defense with seven block assists.
The first set was extremely competitive and featured 11 tie scores and five lead changes. The Warhawks and Blue Raiders were tied as late as 18. ULM drew within one point at 23-22 before the Blue Raiders scored the final three points in the opening set to win 25-22.
In the second set, Middle Tennessee picked up some momentum and pulled away after a five-all draw to win the set 25-19 and go into the break with a 2-0 lead, despite a late ULM 3-0 rally.
Middle Tennessee was never up by more than five points during the third and final set, but still the Blue Raiders were in control from the start, never surrendering the lead after going up 2-1. ULM began to come back late at 20-16 middle Tennesse, trading points the last five points with Blue Raiders as the set drew to a close at 25-21.
The Blue Raiders were led offensively by Chelsea Ross, who recorded 13 kills. Shelby Anderson chipped in 28 assists. Brandi Waller led the defense with four block assists.
The Warhawks host 20th-ranked Western Kentucky Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the ULM Activity Center.
