LAFAYETTE, La. - The ULM tennis team began their second meet of the fall season with a bang, posting an 8-0 overall record at the Ragin' Cajun Classic at the UL-Lafayette. Head coach Terrence De Jongh's team went undefeated in the first and second round of singles play, as well as the first round of doubles actions.
ULM sophomore Sophie Rufyikiri got the Warhawks off on the right foot, defeating Reginka Nychtailova (SELU) 6-0,4-6 in her first round singles match in the "Etouffee" flight. Junior Medy Blankvoort followed with an easy 6-1,6-1 victory over McNeese's Lara Pujol in the "Jambalaya" bracket. Freshman Justyna Krol wrapped up first round singles play witha 6-3, 6-0 victory of Carolina Maso from Lamar in the "Gumbo" flight.
Rufyikiri and Blankvoor then teamed up to defeat Nowland and Teu (Arkansas St.) 8-2 in the "Bread Pudding" doubles flight. Krol paired with ULM freshman Iris Van Leeuwen to defeat Southern Mississipi's Oskin and Grossman duo 8-5 in the "Snoball" bracket.
The Warhawks continued to roll in the second round of singles play later in the day. Rufyikiri won her third match of the day with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Lamar's Carolina Salas. Blankvoort equaled Rufyikiri's feat by posting a 6-0, 6-0 win over Biljana Milosevska of Arkansas State. Krol became the third Warhawk to win three matches on the day by defeating SELU's Renne Villarreal 6-3, 6-2.
