ULM Hosts UALR, Arkansas State in Final Weekend

MONROE, La. -- ULM wraps up the 2012 volleyball campaign hosting UALR and Arkansas State this weekend. The Warhawks (5-16, 1-11 Sun Belt) are looking to snap a recent three-match losing streak.

ULM seniors defensive specialist Tetiana Sukach and outside hitters Samantha Morse and Zuzana Markova will be asked to lead the team in their final weekend as Warhawks. Morse leads the team with 194 kills and averages a team-high 2.9 kills per set. Markova, meanwhile leads the Warhawks with 197 assists and is second only to Morse with 175 kills. Defensively, Sukach has averaged 3.6 digs per set since shifting to the libero position in mid-October.

The weekend begins Friday night at 7 p.m. when the Warhawks host a very tough UALR squad. The Trojans (12-12, 8-4 Sun Belt) boast reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week, outside hitter Edina Begic. Begic averages 5.79 points per set, the highest mark nationally. She ranks second in the land with 5.11 kills per set. Defensively, UALR is paced by defensive specialist Emily Pepperman, who averages 3.64 digs per set. The mark ranks ninth in the league. As a team, UALR ranks second in the conference in hitting percentage (.229), behind only Western Kentucky.

The Trojans lead the all-time series 24-3, dating back to 1985. UALR bested ULM 3-0 in Little Rock, Ark., on Sept. 28. The last ULM win over UALR came in 1992.

The Warhawks end the season on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Arkansas State. The Red Wolves' (17-12, 7-5 Sun Belt) attack ranks second in the conference with a 13.95 kills per set average entering the weekend. Middle blocker Kelsie Hodges' season attack percentage of .324 and outside hitter Jasmine Terry's 3.41 kills per set average pace the Red Wolves' offense. Setter Allison Kearney is second in the league with an average of 11.02 assists per set.

Defensively, Arkansas State defesnive specialist Megan Baska ranks fifth in the Sun Belt, averaging 4.35 digs per set.

The Red Wolves lead the all-time series 25-5, dating back to 1982. In their first meeting this season, Arkansas State swept ULM on Sept. 30 in Jonesboro, Ark. The last ULM victory over Arkansas State came in 1987.
