MONROE, La.- The Warhawk men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Fayatteville, Ark. on Friday to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional Meet. The women will race first at 11:00 a.m., and the men will follow at 12:15 p.m. The top two teams and top four individuals from the men's and women's races will receive automatic berths to the NCAA National Meet, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Louisville, Ky. ULM senior Daniel Mutai, the only NCAA cross country qualifier in ULM's history, will be looking to qualify for his third consecutive national meet.

Mutai finished fourth overall at the regional a year ago, and 12th two years ago in his first season as a Warhawk.  The Kapsabet, Kenya native is having a superb season thus far, with three individual meet championships to his credit. Mutai  is coming off of a 2nd place finish at the Sun Belt Conference Championships on October 10, which was the highest Sun Belt finish ever recorded by a Warhawk. Mutai covered the 8k course in 24:55, narrowly losing to Western Kentucky's Joseph Chebet (24:47).

Mutai's sophomore teammate Silah Chumba will travel to Louisville as well. Chumba has come on strong in his last few races and finished 11th overall at the Sun Belt Conference Championships. Head Coach Karoly Varga feels that both athletes have the talent and fitness levels to compete for a spot at the national meet.

The Warhawk women will also send two runners to the regional meet. Senior Sharon Sason will again lead they way. She is in the midst of an outstanding season, which has seen her post four top ten individual finishes. She will be joined at the front of the ULM pack by sophomore Anakaren Lopez, who has recorded four top tens as well.
