Women's Tennis Earns First Road Win Over Rival McNeese, 6-1

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- ULM (2-0) continued its early season success Friday afternoon with a 6-1 victory at McNeese State at the Nancy Hook Tennis Center.

At doubles, Sophie Rufyikiri and Ema Turudija defeated Lara Pujol and Anastasia Surkova in an 8-4 decision in the top flight. The Warhawks sealed the doubles point with the No. 3 pair of Medy Blankvoort and Justyna Krol coasting to an 8-3 win over Diana Pirciu and Annabelle Peacock. The No. 2 flight featuring Silvia Tumova and Petra Horakova did not finish.

ULM took five of six singles flight. Horakova cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Peacock at the sixth flight to go 2-0 in her young career. Krol also improved to 2-0 on the spring campaign, surpassing Andreea Nenu, 6-3, 6-2 in the fifth flight.

Tumova, playing at the third flight, won in dramatic fashion. After falling 3-6 in the first set, she rallied to pass Surkova 6-3 in the second and 10-4 in the super tiebreak.

Blankvoort beat Pujol 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Turudija earned her first win of the year, defeating Diana Pirciu, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 position.

The Cowgirls' (2-2) lone point came at the top flight where Klaudia Gawlik edged Rufyikiri 7-5, 6-0.

ULM's next match is Friday, Feb. 8 when it hosts Jackson State at 2 p.m.
