No. 75 ULM (5-0) will stay in San Antonio and play Sam Houston State (4-4) on Saturday at 11 a.m. It is the second match of three events in three days.
Scouting the Bearkats
Tanya Postnikova is 7-1 at No. 5 singles and Imke Jagau and Kayla Stevenson are 5-2 at No. 3 doubles. SHSU is on a two-match winning streak with 7-0 victories over Incarnate Word and McMurry. Head coach Jim Giachino (Western Michigan, 1970) is in his seventh season with the program.
Sam Houston State vs. ULM Series
ULM leads the all-time series 16-7over Sam Houston State. The last meeting came on Feb. 8, 2009, which the Bearkats won 5-2.
Last Time Out
ULM improved to 5-0 and did nothing to dispute its No. 75 ITA National ranking with a 6-1 win at UTSA on Friday. Blankvoort, Horakova, Krol and Tumova are all 5-0 on the season while Blankvoort and Krol are 4-0 in doubles play.
The ULM women's tennis program has been ranked at No. 75 in the latest ITA National Team Rankings released on Tuesday. It the first time being ranked since March of 2011. The rankings can be seen by clicking here.
Medy Blankvoort went 7-1 in singles and 8-3 in doubles during the fall season. Sophie Rufyikiri went 6-0 in singles and 4-1 in doubles. Silvia Tumova went 7-0 in singles and 4-4 in doubles. Justyna Krol went 6-1 in singles and 6-2 in doubles. Iris Van Leeuwen went 3-5 in singles and 6-0 in doubles.
Junior forward Medy Blankvoort went 16-1 last season and pushed her career record to 46-16 on her way to an All-Sun Belt selection. Blankvoort collected a winning streak of 16 matches overall which included her victory over Denver's Emma Isberg in the 2011 Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Blankvoort was also named to the 2011-12 Sun Belt Commissioner's List.
Coach Terrence De Jongh has not lost a home-opener in his six seasons at ULM. This season, ULM handled Central Arkansas, 6-1, to continue De Jongh's streak.
The Warhawks do not have a senior on the roster but Coach De Jongh does posses a wealth of experience. All but one of the Warhawks have competed at ULM, freshman Petra Harakova joined the team at semester.
ULM's roster does not contain one player from the United States. The Warhawks boast student-athletes from five different countries. Furthest away from home is Sophie Rufyikiri who is 8,155 miles away from her hometown of Bujumbura, Burundi.
The Warhawks will finish its third match in three days with Texas State in San Marcos on Sunday at 11 a.m.
