MONROE, La. -- The ULM tennis team faces a pair of tough Sun Belt Conference matches this weekend in Lafayette, La. The Warhawks take on UL-Lafayette on Friday, March 15, at 2 p.m. and finish off the weekend against North Texas on Saturday, March 16, at noon. Both matches will be played at Cajun Courts on the campus of UL-Lafayette.
The Warhawks (9-1) own the Sun Belt's best record and are currently riding a three-game winning streak. ULM earned 7-0 sweeps against Nicholls State (March 8) and conference foe UALR (March 9) before rounding out the week with a 5-2 victory at home over UAB (March 11).
ULM has yet to drop a doubles point this season and has posted a dominant 21-2 record in doubles play. The duo of Silvia Tumova and Petra Horakova is a perfect 7-0 this season at the No. 2 position, while Sophie Rufyikiri and Ema Turudija are 7-1 at the No. 1 position and Medy Blankvoort and Justyna Krol are 7-1 at the No. 3 position.
Blankvoort and Tumova are both 9-1 in singles play to lead the way for the Warhawks. Blankvoort has a combined 25-2 record over the last two years in singles competition.
This weekend marks the first two of five straight matches away from home for the Warhawks. ULM is 4-1 this season on the road.
UL-Lafayette (10-6) is coming off a 4-3 victory at home against Youngstown State. The Ragin’ Cajuns are 1-0 against Sun Belt opponents this season with a 4-3 win over Middle Tennessee (March 9).
North Texas (8-4) knocked off Wichita State, 4-1, in its last match. The Mean Green are 2-0 against Sun Belt competition so far this season as they defeated FIU, 5-2 (Feb. 16) and South Alabama, 4-3 (Feb. 17).
