MONROE, La. – The ULM men’s basketball program released its 2013-14 schedule on Thursday which includes eight challenging non-conference games and 18 Sun Belt Conference match-ups.

The Warhawks will open the season at Kansas on Nov. 8 and will also play road games at Northwestern State (Nov. 21), LSU (Dec. 14), Ole Miss (Dec. 18) and Ohio State. The date against the Buckeyes will either be Dec. 27 or 28 and is yet to be finalized.

“This is a pretty serious schedule considering five of our eight non-conference games are against teams that went to post-season play last year,” said fourth-year head coach Keith Richard. “Opening up at Allen Fieldhouse will be a great experience for our players.”

Kansas reached the Sweet 16 last season, while Ohio State earned a spot in the Elite Eight. It will be ULM’s first ever meeting against the Buckeyes and the second against the Jayhawks.

The Warhawks will play their home opener against Samford on Nov. 18. ULM will also host Thomas University (Ga.), a NAIA institution in the Sun Conference, on Dec. 9 and Louisiana Tech on Dec. 22.

“There’s no question the schedule will be challenging but we will compete this year with a full scholarship team for the first time since I’ve been here and I’m excited about that,” Richard said.

The Warhawks will play three less non-conference games for the second year in the row as they complete their final stages of APR penalties. Richard’s program has made tremendous strides academically over the last three years and was one of 21 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball programs that earned Team Academic Excellence Awards from the National Association of Basketball Coaches for the 2012-13 season. The team also earned the 2012-13 Sun Belt Conference team academic award.

ULM will open its conference slate at home against Louisiana-Lafayette on Jan. 4, 2014. The Sun Belt Conference schedule consists of a double-round robin format with home and away games against the Ragin’ Cajuns, Arkansas State, South Alabama, Troy, UALR, WKU and newcomers Georgia State, UT-Arlington and Texas State.

The conference tournament will be held at its new home in New Orleans, La. on March 13-16, hosted by the SBC. The top eight teams in the league will qualify for the tournament.
