Horakova competed in singles in the Gold Draw, while Tejedor squared off against competition in the Grey Draw. The duo also competed in the doubles Red Draw.
Horakova breezed through her first two matches in the eight-player bracket, earning consecutive straight-sets victories. The sophomore took down Marta Sans of New Orleans 6-2, 7-6 (6) in the quarterfinals before defeating Northwestern State’s Daniela Simonova in a dominant 6-2, 6-1 performance in the semifinals.
Unfortunately, the native of Trnava, Slovakia, fell in the finals against Nicholls State’s Stephanie Barnett despite a very strong effort, dropping the decision 7-5, 6-4.
Tejedor, a freshman, also fought hard in her three matches this weekend. While she did not pick up a victory, the experience will prove invaluable once the dual-match season arrives in the spring. The duo also picked up their first doubles experience together. While Horakova earned 11 doubles victories during the 2013 spring season, Tejedor was competing in doubles collegiately for the first time with a fellow Warhawk. They did not capture a win, but the tournament certainly helped to develop the chemistry on the court for the pair of young players.
