MONROE, La. -- The ULM sand volleyball program will hold its second home match of the 2014 season Tuesday against Tulane. The action is set to begin at 2:30 PM.
After tomorrow's contest, the Warhawks will hit the road for the pairs portion of the Fiesta on Siesta Key in Florida.
ULM’s likely top pairs of Zuzana Markova and Marcela Araya and Blanca Ocana and Michelle McNamee will be in the Siesta Cup bracket against some of the nation’s top tandems while the rest of the squad will face equally tough competition in the Fiesta Cup bracket.
Last year, the Warhawks took second in both brackets and hope to find success again this season.
Scouting the Warhawks
After a 3-2 victory over UAB last Thursday, ULM turned around quickly and had a strong showing in New Orleans. Lightning shortened the potential Gold Bracket championship, featuring Markova and Araya against UAB’s top pair. The match was suspended with a 1-1 tie and is slated to resume Friday in Siesta Key, Fla. ULM switched up Blanca Ocana and Hadley Swartz, moving them to the number two spot and three spot, respectively. Hope Pawlik and Swartz finished second in the single-elimination silver bracket on Saturday. Alannah Cullum and Rachel Arnason will be the likely fourth pair while Celine Flores and Kaitlyn Shearer can be expected in the fifth position.
The Green Wave’s top pair of Tea Juric and Jackie Wegner gave Ocana and Swartz a run for their money in the gold bracket semifinal at the Pelican Classic over the weekend. They eventually fell 2-1 to Araya and Markova in a double-elimination semifinal. As a whole, Tulane enters play at 5-3. The team downed mutual foes LSU and UAB 3-2 and 5-0, respectively.
