MCKINNEY, Texas - The ULM men’s golf team finished the day in third place of a very competitive 14-team field at the Jim West Intercollegiate, hosted by Texas State.

In the first round of play, the Warhawks carded a strong 14-under 274 to sit just one stroke behind No. 10 Virginia and four strokes in front of Big 12 school Iowa State.

Velten Meyer led the way, posting a 6-under 66, followed by Calum Hill and Mason Seaborn, who both shot a 4-under 68. Greg Smail ended the round with an even 72, while Charlie Macneal finished just two strokes behind with a 2-over 74.

ULM’s success continued in the second round, again carding three under-par scores.

Seaborn led the way this time with a 5-under 67, followed by Meyer with a 2-under 70 and Macneal with a 1-under 71. Hill posted a 5-over 77, while Smail finished round two with a 2-over 74.

Both Seaborn and Meyer enter the final round in the top 5 of the individual leaderboard.

“Velten and Mason were fantastic and the other three played solid,” said head coach Walt Williams.

The Warhawks posted a team score of 6-under 282 in the second round to end the day with an impressive 20-under 556; just three strokes separate them from second place team Iowa State.

ULM holds a large lead on the competing Sun Belt schools, sitting 13 strokes in front of UT-Arlington, 14 strokes in front of Texas State and 20 strokes in front of UALR.

“We’re in a good position and get to play with No. 10 Virginia and No. 52 Iowa State tomorrow so that will be a fun challenge for our guys,” said Williams.

The final round of the tournament will begin Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
