Dallas, Texas – The ULM baseball team is set to lift the lid on its 2017 schedule this weekend when the Warhawks travel to take on Dallas Baptist in a three-game weekend series. The Warhawks are coming off of a 20-35 record in 2016, while Dallas Baptist finished last season with a 44-19 record and their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Friday’s season opener is slated for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch, followed by day games on Saturday (2:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.) afternoons. All three games can be heard on the Warhawk Radio Network.

Leading Off

-ULM opens its 65th season of baseball this weekend at Dallas Baptist, returning 19 players from last season’s 20-35 squad that finished tied for ninth in SBC play with a 10-20 conference mark. The Warhawks have 16 total new faces on the roster (nine transfers, seven freshmen).

-Friday’s season opener for both teams is part of a three-game weekend series... Game one is set for Friday night at 6:30 p.m., followed by afternoon contests on Saturday (2:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.).

-The Warhawks begin the 2017 campaign on the road for the fourth time since 2010, and for the second consecutive season, after they started 2016 with a three-game weekend series at Southeastern Louisiana. Since 2010, ULM is 12-11 overall in opening weekend games. The Warhawks were 32-46 in weekend series last year.

-ULM and Dallas Baptist have met a total of seven times on the diamond... The Warhawks won the first ever meeting between the two programs, a 6-5 win on May 28, 1970 at the NAIA Area II Tournament... ULM won the second meeting between the two, a 5-2 win on Feb. 12, 1999... Since then the Patriots have won six of the last seven contests over the Warhawks.

-Last season’s three-game series was moved from Monroe to Dallas, where the teams played a Saturday doubleheader, both won by Dallas Baptist (6-1 & 7-3), before the Warhawks took the Sunday finale (6-3).

-Head Coach Bruce Peddie enters his fourth season with the Warhawk program and is 1-3 all-time in two previous meetings against Dallas Baptist.

-The Warhawks hit .231 as a team last year with 30 home runs.  Nathan Reynolds is the team's leading returning hitter after posting a .241 average in 2016… closer Anthony Herrera led the team with 10 saves last year and posted a 1.74 ERA in 22 appearances…The Warhawks fielded .961 as a team last year.

-Dallas Baptist is coming off of a 44-19 record in 2016 and a third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament…Dallas Baptist enters the 2017 season as one of only 23 teams in the nation to advance to the NCAA Tournament in at least five out of the last six years…The Patriots have won 40 or more games in five out of the past six seasons.
