MONROE, La. – The 2017 schedule for the ULM football team was released on Wednesday morning, with the Warhawks now knowing both their non-conference and Sun Belt Conference slate of games that will include five games at home inside JPS Field at Malone Stadium and a national television audience when they open the season at Memphis.

“It’s a really good schedule and it’s about as tough as you can have with the non-conference games, playing the Power Five schools and both Memphis and Southern Miss,” head coach Matt Viator stated. “We are excited to get Southern Miss here at home in what should be a really good game for our fans, and then Memphis is an easy travel game to get to.”

“The biggest difference in the Sun Belt schedule for us will be playing Lafayette in the first game instead of ending the season and also the fact that we won’t play Georgia Southern but pick up Coastal Carolina. All in all, it’s flipping the home and away games, and it’s going to be a very good and demanding schedule.”

One other noticeable change in scheduling for 2017 will be the timing of home games inside JPS Field at Malone Stadium, where the Warhawks will go no more than two straight weeks on the road between home contests. Last season, ULM spent a month away from home between the season-opening victory over Southern and a matchup with Idaho.

“That’s going to be great. In late October we have the back-to-back road games, but that is different from last season. It’s great in a sense that our home games are better spaced out and we won’t go long periods without playing at home in front of our fans.”

ULM will lift the lid on the 2017 campaign on Thursday, August 31 at Memphis, with full television announcements to come at a later date. The matchup will be the Warhawks’ third all-time with Memphis, and the first since 2000. ULM won the teams’ first meeting, 21-20, back in October 1979. Following the season opener at Memphis, the Warhawks will then travel to Doak Campbell Stadium on September 9 to take on Florida State. It will be ULM’s second all-time meeting with Florida State.

The Warhawks will play week three of the season at home for the first time when they welcome regional foe Southern Miss to JPS Field at Malone Stadium. ULM and Southern Miss have had four prior matchups, but none since the 1993 campaign. The following week, ULM opens Sun Belt Conference play with a trip to Lafayette to take on the Ragin’ Cajuns (Sept. 23) before returning home to welcome SBC newcomer Coastal Carolina to town on September 30.

A trip to San Marcos, Texas awaits on October 7 when the Warhawks travel to face Texas State in league play. ULM leads the all-time series 9-4 over the Bobcats, including a home victory last season. A home contest against Georgia State inside JPS Field at Malone Stadium comes on October 14, where the Warhawks will look for a second straight victory in a series they lead 2-0 all-time. ULM will then embark on its only two-game road trip in SBC play, first making the trip to Mobile to face South Alabama on October 21, looking to up their 2-1 all-time mark against the Jaguars, before trekking to Idaho on October 28 for the last trip to face the Vandals as Sun Belt opponents.

The month of November opens with a home contest against Appalachian State on November 4 before an open date on November 11. ULM will square off with Auburn for the second season in a row on November 18 on the road before the Warhawks close the regular season on Thanksgiving weekend when they host Arkansas State on November 25.

Season tickets for the 2017 season will go on sale next week.
