FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Homestanding Arkansas posted six runs over the first two innings on Wednesday afternoon, and then added a five-run fifth, to complete the midweek series sweep over ULM and hand the Warhawks an 11-2 loss at Baum Stadium.

THE BASICS

FINAL SCORE: #30 Arkansas 11, ULM 2

LOCATION: Baum Stadium / Fayetteville, Arkansas

RECORDS: ULM (4-10, 0-0 SBC)

                    Arkansas (10-3, 0-0 SEC)

TURNING POINT

-Arkansas used a two out, three-run homer from Dominic Fletcher that just stayed fair down the right field line to take the early lead in the first inning to set the tone for the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Arkansas followed up the three-run first inning with three more runs in the second inning, highlighted an RBI single and a two run double, to open up the 6-0 advantage.

-ULM cut into the deficit with two runs in the top of the fifth inning when Chad Bell walked and scored on Blake Buckman’s RBI double, followed up by Brady McGehee’s RBI single back up the middle to plate Buckman and bring the deficit to four runs.

-Arkansas answered in the bottom of the fifth with five runs, keyed by a two-run single and a pair of RBI base hits.

-ULM was held to just three hits in the loss, with one apiece from Nate Reynolds, which came to open the game in the top of the first, and the run scoring hits by Buckman and McGehee.

-Warhawk starter Kyle Backofen (0-3) was saddled with the loss, after allowing six runs on seven hits in four innings of work with four strikeouts. Anthony Herrera notched three strikeouts and allowed just one hit in 3 1/3 innings of relief.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

-Wednesday marked the first collegiate start for McGehee, who had appeared in seven prior games…the RBI was his second career run driven in.

-Herrera made his 14th start of season, but his first at second base after previously playing at shortstop the first three weeks of the season.  

UP NEXT

-The Warhawks wrap up their 10-game road trip with a three-game weekend series at UAB beginning on Friday night with a 6:00 p.m. first pitch, followed by afternoon games on Saturday and Sunday in Birmingham.
