MONROE, La. – Visiting South Alabama plated five combined runs over the third and fourth innings on Friday night as the Jaguars handed ULM a 12-2 loss in the first game of the teams Sun Belt Conference weekend series. The teams continue the series on Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. scheduled first pitch.

-After ULM had just scored the first run of the night in the bottom of the second inning, South Alabama took control in the top of the third, first tying the game with a bases loaded walk before an RBI sacrifice fly and a run scoring single gave the visitors a lead they would not relinquish.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-ULM struck first in the bottom of the second when Spencer Hemphill singled to open the frame and later scored on Anthony Herrera’s RBI groundout to take the early lead before South Alabama’s three run third inning. The visitors followed up the third with two more runs in the fourth, keyed by a pair of RBI singles.
-South Alabama added a single run in the fifth on a solo home run before ULM was able to tally a run of its own in the bottom of the fifth when Herrera led off the frame with a double down the left field line and score on Cade Stone’s RBI single into center field.
-After a single run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, South Alabama posted a five run eighth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer, to increase the lead before adding two final runs in the top of the ninth on a fielder’s choice ground ball and a sacrifice fly.
-ULM finished with nine hits in the loss, led by Stone and Hemphill, who each finished with two hits, while Turner Francis, Tyler Cox, Cade Harper, Brady McGehee and Herrera all had one hit.
-The Warhawks stranded 10 men on base in the loss, including leaving the bases loaded to end the bottom of the seventh with South Alabama holding what was then a five run lead.
-Starter Josh Leone was saddled with the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Trey Auger ate up four innings of relief, surrendering four runs (one earned) before Tyler Schwaner, Cole Trichel and Stephen Morrison combined for the final 1 1/3 innings on the mound.
-South Alabama finished with 15 hits, led by a four hit night from Brendan Donovan, while starter Randy Bell tossed eight innings on the way to his second win of the season.
-The Warhawks and Jaguars continue the series on Saturday with a late afternoon 4:00 p.m. start before a 1:00 p.m. series finale on Sunday afternoon. ULM then hosts regional rival Louisiana Tech on Tuesday night at Warhawk Field.
