MONROE, La. – The ULM baseball team allowed 16 hits on Sunday afternoon and visiting South Alabama scored in six different innings as the visiting Jaguars handed the Warhawks an 8-3 loss in Sun Belt Conference play.

-South Alabama received its third straight solid pitching performance on Sunday, this time a seven inning effort from starter Tyler Carr that saw him strikeout six ULM batters and walk just one as the visiting Jaguars saw all three starting pitchers turn in seven-plus inning outings over the weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-South Alabama got on the board with a single run in the top of the first via a solo home run before adding three runs on a pair of singles up the middle in the third inning to extend the lead. The visitors went on to add runs in the next four innings, using an RBI double in the fourth and a scoring single in the fifth before a sacrifice fly in the sixth and another RBI single in the seventh before ULM got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh.
-The Warhawks opened the seventh with back-to-back singles before Tyler Cox delivered a three-run homer over the left field wall to cut into the deficit. ULM went on to put two more runners on base in the inning before South Alabama was able to work out of the threat.
-ULM stranded seven men on base, while South Alabama left 14 men on base as well.
-The Warhawks finished with seven hits, led by Chad Bell’s two-hit afternoon. Cade Stone, Anthony Herrera, Turner Francis, Spencer Hemphill and Cox each had one hit in the loss.
-ULM starter Derek Martin was saddled with the loss, allowing one run on three hits over the opening inning. The Warhawks used five pitchers on the staff day, with Stephen Morrison (2 1/3) and Tyler Schwaner (2 2/3) each eating up innings out of the bullpen.
-For South Alabama, Carr improved to 3-1 on the season with his seven inning, six strikeout afternoon, while Travis Swaggerty was 4-for-5 to lead the offense.
-ULM hosts regional rival Louisiana Tech on Tuesday night at Warhawk Field with a 6:00 p.m. first pitch before hitting the road for a three-game Sun Belt series at Texas State, set to begin on Thursday night in San Marcos.
