MONROE, La. - The ULM women's golf team is hosting the 13thf rendition of the Fred Marx Invitational at Bayou DeSiard Country Club .The event tees off Monday at 8:30 a.m. in a shotgun start.
The tournament has grown from 11 teams last year to 16 since last year. Women's golf head coach Stacy Snider also added 191 yards to the course the 90 competitors will play as compared to last year.
"I hope this tournament becomes one of the premiere events in the Sun Belt. We also would love to have every team in the state participate in the future," Snider said.
This year's tournament course features a par-72, 6,114 yard course, using a mixture of tee markers. Golfers will be challenged immediately on the third hole with a 514 yard par-5. The green is protected by water and Bayou DeSiard lines the left side of the fairway.
The entire course is beautifully situated along Bayou DeSiard. Ten of the 18 holes feature water and all holes have tree-lined, sloping fairways. Many of the holes also feature several bunkers.
ULM finished third in 2011, thanks in part to a new 54-hole record for the program. Troy is the two-time defending team champion. Northeastern State's Whitney McAteer, last year's individual champion, is looking to defend her crown as well.
