MONROE, La. -- ULM scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to claim Saturday’s game over Southeastern Louisiana by a score of 6-5. With the win, the Warhawks evened the weekend series at one game apiece.

The Warhawks (5-6) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the eighth and forced a pitching change by the Lions (7-3). Mason Klotz entered the game and retired the first two batters he faced via a strikeout. Dalton Herrington steped in and was hit by a pitch to keep the bases loaded and close the gap to one run (5-4). Kodie Tidwell followed and recorded what proved to be the game-winning hit with a two-RBI single through the left side as Cody Stone and Jeff Fuller came around to score.

Chad Miller (2-0) earned the win in relief after tossing 5.1 innings of shutout baseball. Miller surrendered just two hits and fanned six batters.

Dylan Hills was tagged with the loss and falls to 0-1 on the season. Hills allowed three runs on two hits and one walk in 0.2 innings of work.

Southeastern claimed an early 2-0 lead as it plated an unearned run in the top of the first and the top of the third innings.

The Lions were able to push their lead to 5-0 with a trio of runs in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Jameson Fisher tripled to the gap in right center to clear the bases to give the visitors a five-run lead.

The Warhawks were finally able to break through with a trio of runs in the home half of the sixth.With Keelin Rasch on second and Chet Simoneaux on first, Justin Stawychny connected on his second homer of the season to close the gap to two runs (5-3).

Tomorrow’s finale between the Warhawks and the Lions is slated for 12 p.m. (was originally scheduled for 1 p.m.).  Alex Hermeling (RHP, 0-0, 1.50 ERA) is slated to get start for ULM while Southeastern will counter with Kyle Keller (RHP, 1-0, 0.82 ERA).
