MONROE, La. – ULM picked up its second home series win of the season as it defeated Southeastern Louisiana 3-2 Sunday afternoon en route to a 2-1 series win.

ULM jumped on the scoreboard first as Chet Simoneaux belted a homer to left center in the home half of the second inning. Simoneaux’s second homer of the season gave the Warhawks a 1-0 lead.

Warhawk starter Alex Hermeling breezed through the first three innings, but ran into trouble in the fourth. The Lions were able to load the bases with two outs in the frame, but a ground ball got the Warhawks out of the jam and maintain the 1-0 lead.

Southeastern was able to take a 2-1 lead as it scored a single run in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth Brooks Morse homered to left center to even the game at 1-1. In the sixth, Brett Hoffman tallied a RBI single through the left side allowing Kyle Cedotal to cross home plate.

The Warhawks evened the game at 2-2 as Chet Simoneaux tallied his second homer of the game over the wall in left center. He is the first ULM player to accomplish the feat at Warhawk Field since Joey Rapp belted two homers against Tulane on Feb. 21, 2012.

ULM regained the lead in the home half of the seventh as Dalton Herrington singled through the left side and picked up a RBI as Dalton Todd crossed the plate. Todd’s run set the final tally at 3-2 in favor of the Warhawks.

Carey Taylor (1-1) earned the win in relief after tossing three shutout innings allowing just one walk with three strikeouts.

Simoneaux finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and a free pass (walk).

John Gremillion was tagged with the loss and falls to 0-1. Gremillion allowed one run on one hit with one walk in 1.0 innings of work.

The Warhawks will close out its four-game homestand when it hosts Michigan State Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
