MONROE, La. -  The ULM beach volleyball team finished out its opening weekend of the 2017 season at the Blazer Beach Duals with a 1-3 record after the team was handed a pair of 0-5 losses to tournament host UAB and 15th-ranked Tulane on Sunday.

-The Warhawks started the day off against host UAB. Two of the five duals matches went to three sets. Hadley Swartz and Kori Simpson in the one position and Becca Brown and Ana Ribiero in the four position were the pairs that were able to push the Blazers to three sets.

-ULM closed out the Blazer Beach Duals with a loss to Tulane, who entered the season ranked as No. 15 in the AVCA preseason poll. Four of the Warhawks' five teams lost in two sets. The only team that pushed to three sets was in the two position with Delany Driver and Gabby Love.

“Again today, our strategy decisions were sound. We are still having problems taking care of the ball when we get the shot we want from our opponent. Defensively we aren't making good decisions either. Those two areas are costing us enough points that we won't beat good teams like the two we played today. Overall, we competed better against top competition but in order for us to beat those teams and reach our goals, we have to be more disciplined both mentally and on each physical contact of the ball.“

-The Warhawks will have a short turnaround before setting out for Gulf Shores, Ala. for another duals tournament where the team will take on Jacksonville State, Tulane, Eckerd and Spring Hill at the Gulf Shores Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
